About the event
A Developmental Journey from Birth to Key Stage 1
Stop seeing "just role play" and start seeing the foundations of literacy and life science. The Home Zone is often the most misunderstood area of a setting, yet it is where the most complex social and cognitive work happens. In this 90-minute session, we will explore how domestic play evolves from the simple "nesting" instincts of a baby into the sophisticated culinary chemistry and deep literacy engagement of a six-year-old.
This session will explicitly cover content for staff working in Babies, Toddlers, Pre-school, Reception, and Key Stage 1.
What we will cover:
The Developmental Arc: Mapping the journey from the sensory comfort of the "Home Corner" to a functional, high-skill "Domestic Suite" that challenges KS1 learners.
The Alchemy of the Kitchen: How Baking and Cooking serve as the ultimate multidisciplinary tools for teaching measurement, chemical change, and the sequence of instructions.
