Introduction to Scheme and Schema

Children often engage in repeatable actions such as lining objects up, posting through holes and throwing across a space. These are called scheme and practitioners can use them to develop a much more purposeful provision if we spend time tuning in.

This training is about tuning into those behaviours, understanding why they happen and thinking about what we can do next to support children.

Delegates will learn:

• The difference between scheme and schema.

• The origin of the theory and how it has developed.

• How to spot the 24+ different actions.
